We’ve been trying to get into Truly Pizza in Dana Point for a while now, but reservations are very hard to come by. Since we were in the area, we decided to try a walk-in. The wait was about an hour, but it was completely worth it.
We ordered the Truly White, Ciccio, and chicken wings. Everything was excellent. The pizzas stood out the most—crispy, flavorful crust with high-quality toppings and great balance in every bite. The wings were also well-prepared, crispy on the outside and juicy inside.
Overall, great food and definitely worth the hype. We’ll be back again, but will try to book a reservation next time to avoid the wait.

For the past few years, I’d been hearing about Truly Pizza in Dana Point, so we finally made the trip even without reservations. As a group of five, we were told the wait would be about an hour and a half and that we’d be seated at the outdoor stools since there weren’t any tables available. Totally fine with us, considering it’s nearly impossible to score a reservation, but not ideal as we had a five-year-old who we had to make sure didn’t fall off. Ha!
First impressions? This place is gorgeous. It’s a beautiful two-story, open-air restaurant and easily the most aesthetically pleasing pizza spot I’ve ever visited. I had to do a double take to make sure the lemon trees weren’t real. The front of the menu reads, “Truly Pizza: A Love Story,” and I remember thinking, “I’m about to fall in love.” But I didn’t. That’s not to say the pizza wasn’t excellent, because it was.
We started with the Garlic Pull Apart Bread and the Seasonal Burrata, and both were fantastic. For our pizzas, we ordered the Champion Tomato & Cheese (round), the Smoky Vodka (square), and the Suprema (square). The Champion came with six slices, while the other two came with eight. It was more than enough food for our group, and we still had leftovers to take home.
Everything we tried was delicious. The dough on the Champion Tomato & Cheese was outstanding. The pistachio lemon pesto on the Smoky Vodka added an awesome twist, and if you’re someone who loves a loaded pizza, the Suprema delivers exactly what you’d expect in all the right ways - it’s a classic.
My only hesitation is that my expectations were almost impossibly high. When a place requires reservations a month in advance and is ranked the #4 pizza restaurant in the U.S. by 50 Top Pizza, I expected to have one of those “I’ll never stop thinking about this meal” experiences. Instead, I had a really, really good pizza dinner. And I’ve had plenty of those.
That said, I’d absolutely recommend Truly Pizza. It’s a unique experience that stands apart from your neighborhood pizzeria, and you can tell the team genuinely cares about both the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. The staff checked on us throughout the meal, and the attention to detail was noticeable.
To be fair, we also missed out on two pizzas I really wanted to try. The Viola was sold out by the time we ordered (not sure how that happens as our server said they haven’t had it for weeks), and the Umami Mushroom, the restaurant’s Pizza of the Year winner, is already at the top of my list for next time.
Maybe then it’ll truly be a love story.

Truly Pizza is absolutely worth a visit. We ordered the Ciccio and the Umami Mushroom pizza, and both were outstanding. The crust was the star of the show—thin, incredibly crispy, and perfectly baked with just the right amount of char.
The Ciccio is a simple but delicious tomato pie with amazing flavor in every bite, while the Umami Mushroom is a fantastic white pizza loaded with savory mushroom goodness. We also shared an order of fries, which were crispy and hit the spot.
For drinks, definitely try the rosé Prosecco. It’s refreshing and almost slushy-like, making it perfect for a warm California evening.
The atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming. We sat downstairs near the entrance, where fresh lemon trees added a charming touch. They even provide blankets if the evening gets chilly, which was a thoughtful detail.
Overall, Truly Pizza delivers a unique pizza experience with excellent ingredients, a great atmosphere, and a menu full of creative options. Definitely give it a try at least once

Today, I finally visited the world-famous Truly Pizza.
As soon as I arrived, I put my name on the waiting list, and they told me it would be a two-hour wait.
Since I was already in Dana Point, I decided to make the most of the time. I checked out the Bluff Top Trail and the Dana Point Preserve Trailhead, and even grabbed a coffee at Bear Coast Coffee while waiting out the two hours.
Finally, I was able to step inside the restaurant.
I was dying to know just how amazing this place could be to make people wait for two whole hours.
To start, I had The Dana Point Wedge Salad. It was fresh, unique, and absolutely delicious.
Then came the main event: the pizza.
First up was the Potato Bianca Pizza. While the cheesy part was great, the crust was truly something special—incredibly crispy and unique. It tasted as though they use yeast and let the dough ferment fully, letting the yeast do its magic inside so the crust puffs up perfectly. It was so good that I could have just torn off the crust and eaten it by itself. At first glance, I thought it was deep-fried, but taking a bite, I could tell it was perfectly fermented and baked.
Next, I tried the Sweet & Spicy Pizza. The sweetness of the honey and the savory, salty flavors balanced each other out beautifully. This one also had a well-fermented, baked dough that gave it that signature crispy texture. I could really tell that this crispiness is Truly Pizza’s trademark.
It was an incredibly satisfying meal.
Now I completely understand why people are willing to wait so long for this pizza.
If I can make a reservation next time, I’d love to come back. But if I have to wait another two hours in line? I don't think I could do that again.

“Truly Pizza” offers a genuinely impressive pizza experience that feels worth the long wait. From the moment you arrive, you notice there is almost always a long line, but once you try the food, it becomes clear why it’s so popular.
The quality of the pizzas is outstanding. The dough is one of the highlights—light, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Every bite shows that high-quality ingredients are being used, and the freshness really stands out. The overall taste is rich and satisfying, making it easy to understand why people keep coming back.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very cool and inviting. It has a lively and modern vibe that makes it a great place to hang out with friends or enjoy a casual meal. The staff are friendly, helpful, and professional, even when the place is extremely busy.
We ordered a few of their popular items, including the Smoked Vodka pizza, Tomato pizza, another specialty pizza, and chicken wings. Everything we tried was delicious and well-prepared, with nothing disappointing on the table.
Overall, despite the long wait, Truly Pizza delivers excellent food, a great atmosphere, and solid service. It’s definitely a place worth visiting if you love high-quality, artisan-style pizza.
