Beyond their size, small businesses are defined by their spirit. And at the helm are their intrepid founders—scrappy, ambitious, and resilient. They invent and build things despite uncertainty, because it’s what drives them. Their risks lead to innovation that moves the world forward. And we need them.
I am giving it 5 stars for what it is which is a basic American family restaurant. We've eaten here probably 10 times. We get good service and our food is solid. It isn't Mastros but their chili, burgers, fish/chips and breakfast food has always been good for us. If you go in expecting so amazingly unique and fancy restaurants that isn't the right expectations. It is dog friendly and is very large so getting a seat usually isn't a problem. It is old and outdated in there but I kind of like that old family restaurant feel. It is a bit overpriced, but usually things are in the harbor.
So the food was okay but the problem is the price of that food. I had the eggs Benedict which just used a piece of ham instead of a proper Canadian bacon. It makes it too salty. The eggs were well poached and the hollandaise sauce was good. But it was $27 which is just outrageous for what it is and in a diner that has not been renovated since the 1990’s is my guess. Just really disappointing having just come from Japan where meals were amazing and priced so well that it was really better than cooking. Is it the fault of the owner. Probably not but it still just feels like being ripped off when a meal for 2 is over $60 at something akin to Denny’s. It makes me sad. Service was prompt and friendly however 15% tip on a not worth it $60 meal just doesn’t add up to anything reasonable. Since staff make higher wages tipping has to change from a percentage to something reasonable when exceptional service is provided. The service was good but nothing exceptional. Travel has allowed me a new perspective. The system here in the US is just broken.
Googled dog friendly restaurants in Dana Point and the Brig came up. Wow. More like Dog’s welcome and treated just as important as the owners. Great outdoor patio to bring you four legged friend. Food was good and served in large portions. The restaurant does not have a view of the water, but is very close for a short walk after. Will be returning.
We went for breakfast and it is great! The menu is broad, the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the nap needed afterwards is serious - especially if you’re in vacation mode like we were. Everything could use an update in and around this place in my opinion. It seems clean but it doesn’t feel fresh if that makes sense. The prices are about what you’d expect in CA. The service and food are great.
The ambiance of the restaurant is quite cozy and casual. Nothing special. The service is great, our server is very well accommodating. My problem with this place is the food. It’s overpriced, less to no seasoning, they put more sides than the actual food you order. Overall, this place is not recommendable.
