This is the second time since they reopened that we have been here and it’s been horrible. Currently it’s Memorial Day and I have seen 2 parties leave and we are sitting here an hour plus in with no food. They are completely under staffed. There is so much noise between the band outside and the music inside all creating a very chaotic atmosphere. Their menu is a piece of paper with a few choices. We won’t be back.
3.27.26 Update: Terrific service tonight. The service overall has really improved over the last few months. Ryan was awesome tonight and so was the chicken piccata! We sat Pitt in the deck, the music was relaxing and the sunset was beautiful. Definitely recommend now!👍👍👍 I got there at 6:00 and was seated right away! Two friends joined within 15 minutes. Our server took our drink orders after awhile which took another 20 minutes to receive. We had to keep asking where they were...A long wait for not being too busy. By 7:20 p.m. our server took our order. I was the first to order but the last to be served a salad. My friends kept getting their meals cold so they had to bring them twice, all the while I have no food. I didn't receive my salad until after 8:30 p.m.! The salad was okay but very small for $ 26! I've eaten here before and the food was good and the service was fine but this experience really has me wondering if it will be the same the next time.... It's a good place for music. Our server was sweet and attentive but it seemed like the Bar and Kitchen were holding her up. You def get faater service sitting at the bar I've noticed. I'm in the top 10% of nationwide restaurant reviewers on Google with over 6 million views..... If I could get some advice to newer management, it would be to increase your portions on your salads or lower the cost. This is a very inexpensive meal to make. I didn't dine inside and so I'm not sure how prompt they were that night but I would suggest some more training with the staff, kitchen and outside bar on delivery times. Maybe it was just an off night, idk... hoping to try it again... PS .. the desert was very pretty and definitely large enough to share 👍
Salt Creek Grill used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Dana Point. The soufflé was amazing, the pork chops were outstanding, the service was always impeccable, and happy hour offered great value. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. We visited tonight, and I ordered a Caesar salad with blackened chicken. The salad was very small, overly salty, and cost $27. The chicken wasn't even a full chicken breast—it appeared to be very thinly sliced pieces that felt skimpy for the price. What really shocked me was the pricing. A loaded baked potato was $16. In my opinion, that's excessive, especially when higher-end restaurants nearby offer better quality and more reasonable pricing. Restaurants like Nick's Laguna Beach and Houston's Irvine consistently deliver excellent food, service, and value. Service was adequate, but I noticed several servers standing around, which made me wonder if staffing overhead is contributing to the rising menu prices. It's disappointing to see a longtime Dana Point favorite move so far away from the value and quality that made it special. My concern is that if prices continue to rise while portions and quality decline, Salt Creek Grill may end up pricing itself out of the market.
I've taken the family a few times now. It seems like the outside dining area has improved each time. The Sunday brunch was amazing. The food was great, the service was outstanding, and the cornhole boards in the sand area were a super nice touch and really added to the "family friendliness" feel. Highly recommend for a nice weekend outdoor eating experience. 👌🏽
Perect New Year's Celebration. First had very good food at the restaurant and the fun dancing with live music at bar area. Restaurant services excellent server, prepared, friendly, accommodating all the requests. Food menus short but great varieties. All food arrived promptly and well prepared. For party they had an outdoor tent with mechanical bull. Inside the bar area was closed off with special entry fee. Very good mixed music band. Drinks stations. A lot of people having fun and dancing.
