Food is solid. Popular and busy place. The front of house is run loudly and with force. Go along for the ride or there’s friction. Oddly poured our wine away from the table. How do I know it’s the bottle I bought.
What a disappointment. We ordered steak tartare to start. Whereas the beef was good, the chef thought it clever to mix in hoards of cheap processed cheese, making about a 50/50 split meat/cheese, it was dreadful. No seasoning and no toast to accompany. My wife took the ‘paella’ which was seafood with rice. Tasteless and consequently she has spent the day in bed. I had the scallops in bacon which were rubbery and overcooked. The dessert consisted of chocolate mousse piped into a toffee and nut cup. The service was better than the food. Definitely not sophisticated and definitely not European cuisine. You need to up your game guys. Not even approaching value for money.
We ordered risotto and paella and both were flavorful, however the paella was more of a seafood ‘watery’ rice and not the dry paella I was expecting. Regardless, the flavor was there for both dishes so my rating isn’t about the food. The rating is about the service … it was …. Weird. It felt like I was in a dive bar being served by someone not really paying attention to what they were doing.. would not look at us while we were ordering or offered suggestions besides stating the special for the day.. He even mentioned something about the fact that the food was quick and that’s what matters… which I’m like .. nah.. the flavor matters.. it was bizarre!! Besides that, the atmosphere is a mix of fine dining and some happy hour bar-type vibes with a TV playing sports. They have a nice selection of cocktails too and I saw a group bringing their own bottle of wine so they probably have a cork fee too which can be a good option. Their wine selection is good with a nice variety.
By far, the most amazing dinner I've had in ages.. Christmas Eve, crazy busy, I had the escargot, prime rib and a couple of martinis. The service was amazing... and they were slammed, and the food was out of this world! Even the mashed potatoes were over the top! No need for salt or pepper, everything was seasoned to perfection.. they even brought me a box to rest my feet on since I was at the bar, honestly, above and beyond anything I could've imagined. Show this place some love whenever you're in town, you won't regret it!
4 stars only because the ropa vieja came with a weird rice and no plátanos but everything else was great and the service was exceptional.!
