Beyond their size, small businesses are defined by their spirit. And at the helm are their intrepid founders—scrappy, ambitious, and resilient. They invent and build things despite uncertainty, because it’s what drives them. Their risks lead to innovation that moves the world forward. And we need them.
Stopped by Memphis Cafe for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised! The food exceeded expectations—fresh ingredients, well-prepared, and full of flavor. Service was friendly and efficient, making the experience even better. The lively atmosphere added to the charm, creating a great start to the day. Definitely planning to return!
Food is delicious. Best catfish I've had in a long time. Right amount of spice, fried to perfection. Burger delicious, thick bacon along with gumbo fries. However, service was non-existent. I was given the bill while still eating. We didn't enjoy the ambiance this time, unlike last time we were here, the service and food were impeccable.
Can't wait to come back here!! I'm looking forward to trying their gumbo, catfish, and meatloaf to start. Came here on a Sunday unplanned, last minute choice before 12pm it was busy. The inside is small and quaint and not much space, ended up sitting out side in the uncovered section. Which was not taken up or full yet. By the time the food came the rest of the benches had been assigned customers. So not sure if they take reservations but I'd call ahead if you want to sit inside or make sure you have enough space if you come with a group of people for brunch. Loved the food here. Didn't expect much when I came here, I've tried southern food at other places in California and had been disappointed half the time but this time I was not! I got the fried chicken and it was delicious! Loved the collard greens and the mashed potatoes as well. The chicken was on the bone, didn't even realize till later but was juicy and crispy and well seasoned. Ended up eating the whole meal. Also ordered the pulled pork sandwich and loaded potato pancakes which were really tasty and filling. Had to stop myself from finish them before my food came to me.
Elevate Your Breakfast, Southern Style! Wow, this small, charming establishment will elevate your brunch experience! I ordered the Memphis Two-Egg Breakfast, and the eggs and potato cakes were cooked perfectly and well-seasoned. The waffle was crispy and buttery, yet still maintained an airy, light, and fluffy interior. My fiancé ordered the Biscuits & Country Gravy Breakfast and had nothing but good things to say about it. They offer a great selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, with a huge plus for having glass bottle Topo Chico—perfect for curing a hangover. I absolutely cannot wait to return and try more of their Southern-style dishes. The service is amazing; the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. The outdoor patio is a delight, especially on a beautiful Costa Mesa morning! If you're within a 20-mile radius and looking to elevate your brunch, Memphis Cafe will do just that with their delicious Southern comfort food!
Memphis surprised the heck out of me! It's been years since I've been, and boy do I regret waiting so long. First off, the vibe was great. Music at the right level, a nice buzz of patrons talking, and the kitchen cranking out delicious food. We really enjoyed the menu which offered something for everyone. We ordered the gumbo (only complaint..there was 1 shrimp, but not bad for $10), chicken and half waffle, breakfast burrito, and the Memphis two egg breakfast. Everyone cleaned their plate with the exception being the burrito as that thing was huge (it came home 🤭). I was told the pog mimosa was delicious. Great kids menu options, but my growing boys ordered off the regular menu. Service was great with the waitress engaging just enough, allowing us space to enjoy our meal and each other's company. I'm looking forward to returning and trying more menu items.
