We stayed at Casa Tropicana for two nights, and the location was definitely the standout feature. Being just across from the beach, only a quick 2 minute walk, made it convenient.
Unfortunately, the rest of our experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. While the room itself was acceptable, cleanliness was a major concern. The bathroom, in particular, appeared poorly cleaned upon arrival, with visible hairs and grime that made it feel unhygienic and not properly prepared for new guests. We also noticed dust in multiple areas of the room, which added to the overall impression that cleaning standards were lacking.
Another significant issue was the noise. Throughout both days, especially at night, the noise levels were extremely disruptive. There was a very loud dog in the room directly in front of us that barked frequently, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.
Communication was also a challenge. The property was difficult to reach, and when we did interact with staff in person, the service felt unfriendly and not particularly helpful. On top of that, the Wi-Fi was extremely slow, which made it frustrating to use even for basic tasks.
In summary, although the location is excellent, the issues with cleanliness, noise, service, and poor wifi mean we will never book here again.

I wish I could have left a better review. We got the family room.
The room during the day is VERY loud. It’s sounds like a loud base rumbling the walls so loud I couldn’t get a toddler to nap. The staff said it was under the laundry room.
The room has zero phone service and no landlines.
I called and talked to two people about a late check in and that I would need parking and they forgot the pass.

Horrible Hotel!!! We made a reservation and called the week of arrival to ask for a request, The desk made no mention that our reservation was cancelled by the 3rd party booker. We were not told this. We checked in early but our room wasn't ready. We had another engagement at 3PM so that was fine. Again no mention of any problem with our reservation. We were told we would just need to get a key before 9PM. Again that was fine. But when we came back we were not put in the room we reserved. The room we booked had an ocean view soaking tub and a private patio. It was even pictured online. But when we arrived we were given a key to the worst hotel room in my LIFE!!!! We walked up the stairs with our luggage to find a pitch black patio and room with no lights on. The room was filthy and had no ocean view soaking tub or private patio. It had the appearance that it was someone's apartment. There was an open bottle of Whiskey in the refrigerator. The floor was absolutely filthy, I mean stained and black dirt all over. The kitchen has a 4' step up with no warning as you walk into the dining room, I literally tripped over it and fell to the floor! The vinyl floor in the living room had large pieces missing. There were no towels in the room. The front desk could care less. We decided to leave after finding another hotel nearby! Additionally the hotel was covered in scaffolding and under construction with no access to the beach from the front of the hotel, again no mention that the hotel was under construction. We wish we had taken pictures to show everyone what they might be in for!!!! But it was 7PM by then and no call from the Manager to resolve the situation, so we decide to find another room! Good riddance!!!! NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL They are RUDE and don't care about your stay!!!!!

The wife and I stayed here for a weekend and loved it. The rooms are quaint and the deck outside the rooms are perfect for watching the sun set over the ocean.
If you want the Ritz, this isn’t the place. If you want a comfortable room with a nice bed, look no further. The bathroom tubs are a little dated, and used to have a jacuzzi function, which no longer works, but the shower was hot and worked fine.
The San Clemente trolley stops outside and is free, so you can park your car, have a drink or two, and let public transportation do heavy lifting for you. They gave us a coffee voucher for the cafe downstairs, and with a $5 tip, we had multiple refills in the morning. We will definitely stay here again.

Lovely location and great views. Taking cold water showers at night and again in the morning, ruined our stay. The after hours number was wrongs so no one to address the issue. Manager only offer to cover our breakfast at their restaurant as compensation. When I mentioned comping a room, not only did she say no and not even one at 50%-she gave us the opportunity to book at a later date for almost $300. Well over what we paid for our stay. No comped room and the opportunity to give them $300 more??!! So disappointed in this property!!!! Give your money to any other hotel in San Clemente!!
