I've been taking the family cars to AV Auto Service for over 20 years now, from the Corolla to the V8 Camaro, and everything inbetween, with good reason! Shane and his crew do great work at a fair price. I have never once had them recommend something that didn't need to be done, and more than once they have told me that some work I thought might be due was actually not needed! That is a sign that they value long term customer relationships and treat their customers with integrity. They will tell me if some service item should be done NOW, or if it can wait until next time, which I appreciate. Work is nearly always done when promised, except for rare occasions when a part is unavailable or something. If you are looking for an independent shop that is run by folks with integrity who care about their customers, this is the place. Just keep in mind that you're working with a small business, not a massive corporate service center. :)

Austin does a good job of communicating the status of the work, and Shane and his mechanics are very good at diagnosing and fixing my Honda Element … which is just shy of 200k and still running great. They’ve also worked on our Miata, Accord, and our Telluride. Always fair pricing and estimates.
Shane has been my mechanic for over five years. I trust him implicitly with everyone of my vehicles! He never attempts to upsell, many times he would tell me, you can hold off on some type of a service a little while longer and with the services he does suggest, he always prioritizes it, in case you want to spread out the repairs. Shane Portnoff is the owner and general manager of this shop and he's the most honest and reliable mechanic I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Just like Shane, his entire staff is also top notch and will always go that extra mile to make certain that your repairs will be done accurately and most efficiently, for a very fair and reasonable price. It's a true blessing that I found such an admirable crew of superb mechanics who can diagnose and fix any and all problems you may have with your vehicle. These professionals can also detect any issues that your car may have, Before they may turn into something more serious, which could damage your vehicle. That saved me a whole lot of money before a part gave out on my car. The mechanics here are quite dependable and take care of your vehicle, as if it was their own! You'll never have to worry about having to take your car back to have it serviced for the same issues again, since they have focused on quality parts and service for all the years that I have been their thankful customer. Their entire staff, from the high quality specialists like Shane and his very knowledgeable mechanic Ralph, to the front desk receptionist Austin, are all very personable, as well as being great at their jobs! Shane is also a wonderful family man who truly cares about his customers and their future safety, in all of the vehicles that he fixes and repairs. On a personal note, when I lived locally in Aliso Viejo, Shane would repeatedly give me a ride home if my car would take more than an hour to repair. When I moved to San Diego, it would take me about an hour and a half to drive to his shop...but it was always well worth it! His experience, honesty and dependability, as well as that of his staff, were worth far more than the time and long drive it took me to get there. I'm now only about a half hour away and being closer to Shane's Auto Service was actually one of my considerations in that move.
