Located on a busy street corner, with parking in a back lot.
I had the #8 Ortega Hwy omelette (ortega chiles, bacon, onion and cheese). I liked that it was very tasty, mild chiles, and really good pico de gallo on the side. Very good home fries and good quality rye toast.
Good table service, I’ll be back for sure.

I love that this is an old fashioned diner! It has an extensive menu but I've had the breakfast tacos both times we've been there. 3 huge tacos with choice of breakfast potatoes or hash browns. Coffee is great too! Friendly waitress. We went on a week day so wasn't crowded. Wish we visited San Clemente more often. I'd go there all the time!
Update - 3/24. On another San Clemente trip so able try more of their wonderful menu! Chill Verde breakfast burrito this time, with side of breakfast potatoes. Super good!

Great san Clemente home town feel here. Eat outside with your dog or inside with local pictures on the wall. The food is great! I had the jalapeño eggs Benedict with hash browns. Not to spicy but just right. Also scrambled eggs with hash browns was very good. Black coffee with lots of cream what’s not to like. Excellent service as well!

When I told the server that I'm gluten free, she offered to substitute sliced tomatoes or corn tortillas for the bread that would normally come with my omelette. (I choose to let my husband eat it instead.) My husband loves diners and thought this place was perfect! There both counter service and tables available. Our food was delicious!

We were looking for a place nearby for a quick bite, and Sunrise Cafe popped up in our search. Since they were open, we decided to give it a try, and I'm glad we did.
From the moment we walked in, the team was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were seated immediately, and the service remained warm and attentive throughout our visit. The menu is what you'd expect from a classic neighborhood diner, with plenty of familiar breakfast and lunch favorites. At first glance, it felt like a typical diner menu, but once the food arrived, it was clear this place takes pride in what they serve.
Everything was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, while we also had the BLT, and both were excellent. The grilled chicken was juicy, perfectly cooked, and you could actually see it being prepared fresh on the chargrill, which made all the difference. The BLT was equally delicious, with fresh ingredients and great flavor. The only small thing I'd change is adding a little more salt to the fries, but that's an easy fix and certainly didn't take away from the meal.
I was in a bit of a rush, and the staff let me know upfront that the grilled chicken would take about ten minutes because it was being cooked fresh. When they realized I was short on time, they graciously converted my order to go without hesitation. They even thoughtfully filled to-go water cups with plenty of ice while we waited.
Great food, genuinely caring service, and the kind of hospitality that keeps people coming back. If you're in San Clemente, Sunrise Cafe is absolutely worth a visit. It's a wonderful small business that deserves the support, and you'll leave with a great meal and an even better impression.:::
